Brooks names Connie Gonzalez Chief Strategy Officer

A forward-thinking strategist and communicator, Gonzalez has been a fixture on the Brooks executive leadership team since 2015, previously serving as Director of Strategy & Community Relations and Director of Public Relations. Gonzalez has played a pivotal role in evolving the Brooks brand from a former Air Force Base to a thriving, vibrant mixed-use development. She has spearheaded workforce development initiatives, including the creation of the bi-annual Brooks Job Fair, championed small business support, and continues to position Brooks among San Antonio’s most sought-after locations for residential and commercial development. Over the past six years, her work in community engagement has helped to draw more than 1,300 new residents to campus. Gonzalez also pioneered the creation of Brooks’ signature event series – introducing the popular Chanclas y Cervezas Fiesta partner event as well as the Brooks’ Town Hall series, which extends Brooks’ community outreach efforts beyond the boundaries of campus and into the surrounding neighborhoods.

“Growing alongside the Brooks region has been the adventure of a lifetime,” said Gonzalez. “I never imagined setting roots on San Antonio’s South Side, but once you get here you fall in love with the sense of community and the vision. I’m excited to help launch a new phase of regional growth and prosperity that will further elevate this region, attracting transformative investments that contribute to the overall success of San Antonio.”

An advocate for community involvement, Gonzalez serves as Chair for the City of San Antonio’s Planning Commission, Chair-Elect for the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is a member of the CAST Med High School Advisory Board of Directors, the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) Foundation and serves on the Southside First Board of Directors. A graduate of Leadership San Antonio Class 44, the City South Leadership Class 30 and the North Chamber Innovative Leadership Program, Gonzalez also serves on the Leadership San Antonio Class 45 Steering Committee.

An economic development engine for the South Side, the Brooks campus is home to more than 3,200 employees, a number expected to double over the next three years. In addition, more than 500 new residential units are under construction and The Greenline, a 43-acre park in the heart of campus, was recently connected to San Antonio’s miles-long Mission Reach trails.
