After experiencing life in downtown San Antonio at The Peanut Factory Lofts, I decided it was time to return to my Southside roots. While downtown has quite a number of benefits, it also has some drawbacks, one being the high cost of living.
I was born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio, so moving back closer to home made sense, both socially and financially. The biggest challenge in leaving such a nice place in the center of it all is finding something comparable south of downtown.
One of the most promising neighborhoods on the Southside (and maybe all of San Antonio) is the Brooks development, formerly known as Brooks City Base. With tons of new businesses as well as residential properties, I was able to find the perfect fit for my lifestyle.
The latest residential complex at Brooks is The Kennedy, developed by the NRP Group, which is responsible for properties such as Cevallos Lofts, Big Tex, as well as the forthcoming Hemisfair project. The moment I walked into The Kennedy’s leasing office, I felt at home.
The Kennedy is an upscale luxury community that you will not find anywhere else on the Southside. It gives me great pride to know that the developers took a chance on this side of town, and Brooks was the perfect location.
Just two minutes from the front gate, you can find tons of great places to eat and have fun. Brooks is home to City Base Cinema and soon also to a new 43-acre linear park called The Greenline. The first phase of building is slated for completion in October.
One of the many amenities for Kennedy residents is a direct access gate onto the Greenline Park & Brooks Trail. Other fantastic amenities that I enjoy by living here are quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, high-speed internet, and best of all, the resort-style pool with 24-hour clubhouse.
With tons of different floor plans to choose from, I opted for their one-bedroom townhome. With two stories and a private attached garage, I feel like I live in an actual house but with all the amazing amenities that go with apartment living. My balcony happens to overlook the aforementioned Greenline Park.
I work from home, so I wanted to be surrounded by an environment that felt like a relaxing resort. Why work in a stressful environment, right? When I get done with work, I can go downstairs and soak in the pool, lie in the hammocks, or even play a game of billiards. When I want to go downtown, it only takes me 10 minutes to get there.

For those who want easy access to downtown without a car, Brooks will also be home to a state of the art transit center beginning in the spring of 2019. Brooks is also home to the first full-service hotel south of downtown.
With so much development happening here, I know I made the right choice by living at The Kennedy. If you are looking for a new place to call home, I highly recommend doing a tour of this property. In November, it will host an official grand opening. I look forward to the bright future in store for the Southside of San Antonio.
