U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry will deliver the keynote address at a Business Journal event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Eagle Ford Shale.

Eagle Ford Shale-A-Bration — organized by the San Antonio Business Journal in partnership with the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable and the Houston Business Journal — will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Hangar 9 at Brooks in south San Antonio.

U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, will introduce Perry, who was governor of Texas when Petrohawk Energy Corp. announced the discovery of the Eagle Ford Shale on Oct. 21, 2008.

Over the past 10 years, the Eagle Ford has played a critical role in growing U.S. exports of natural gas, crude oil and refined products across the globe.

Two panel discussions will follow Perry’s address. San Antonio Business Journal reporter Sergio Chapa will lead the first panel discussion featuring former Petrohawk executive Dick Stoneburner and other members of the team that drilled the first Eagle Ford well.

STEER Interim President and CEO Chris Ashcraft will lead the second panel discussion featuring Cheniere Energy Inc. Vice President of Gas Supply Corey Grindal, Port Corpus Christi Chief External Affairs Officer Omar Garcia and Eagle Ford Consortium Chairman Leodoro Martinez.
