(SAN ANTONIO) – Live music, outdoor movies, a snow day and a tamale festival highlight Brooks’ 2017-18 programming lineup. San Antonio’s up-and-coming community with a vision as big as Texas Brooks’ schedule of family-friendly events kicked off in October and runs through September 2018. All events are free and open to the public.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer more community events than ever before on our campus in the coming year,” Brooks President & CEO Leo Gomez said. “We’re always looking for new ways to engage our community – from our frequent visitors to those who have never been to campus – Brooks has become the hub of the Southside and with our continued exponential growth, now is the time to experience it.”
A go-to for live music, Brooks will host Music Takes Flyte – a concert series on the lawn outside historic Hangar 9. Music Takes Flyte features some of San Antonio’s best local musicians – including Brian Strange and the Strange Brothers and Bob’s Bass Band (May 19) – alongside food truck fare and a variety of lawn games. Live music enthusiasts can also toast to soulful stylings at Gin & Jazz, an evening of live jazz music and specialty drinks at the Embassy Suites Terrace on Feb. 2.
Ringing in the holiday season, Brooks celebrates a San Antonio tradition on Dec. 9 with ¡Feliz Tamalidad! In partnership with the Southside First Economic Development Council, ¡Feliz Tamalidad! will feature more than 20 tamale vendors showcasing a wide variety of everyone’s favorite holiday dish, along with live music and activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Pull up a blanket or lawn chair for Brooks Movie Nights – a series of outdoor movie screenings complete with free popcorn, live music, food trucks and a bounce house. Movies include Home Alone (Dec. 9), a special Fiesta Edition screening of Selena (April 7) and Pitch Perfect (July 14). Movie Nights will take place at the Greenline – a 43-acre linear park currently under construction in the heart of the Brooks campus. The Greenline will celebrate its grand opening with a day-long festival featuring live music, activities and outdoor fun on March 24.
Brooks transforms into a winter wonderland for Snow Fall – a favorite annual event – on Jan. 27. Guests will enjoy family-friendly fun and activities, including building snowmen, making snow angels and sledding.
Celebrating San Antonio’s Tricentennial and the 100th anniversary of Hangar 9, Brooks will host a juried art exhibit and competition inside the newly restored building. Works of art will honor Hangar 9 – which is the oldest wooden aircraft hangar still standing in its original location.
