(SAN ANTONIO) – Brooks and Industrial Group Southwest (IGX) officially broke ground on a 350,000-square foot light industrial facility today. IGX will develop, construct and lease the facility, which will be located on the Brooks light industrial parcel off of Goliad Road and City Base Landing.

The IGX development, expected to be completed in spring 2019, will be the fourth light industrial facility to locate at Brooks. Japanese machinery maker Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. officially opened its first U.S.-based injection molding machine manufacturing plant on the Brooks campus in early May.

“Brooks is quickly becoming one of San Antonio’s light manufacturing hubs as we fulfill our vision of attracting employers to the South Side,” said Leo Gomez, Brooks President & CEO. “This facility will have the capacity to house up to three tenants as we continue to contribute towards the employment goals of our community.”

The facility, which will be the first building of a joint venture between Brooks and IGX, will be located on 20-acres of land and will feature ample parking for the estimated 400 to 900 people who will be employed by future tenants. At full build out, preliminary development plans call for the joint venture to feature six available building sites ranging from 30,000 to 600,000-square feet and from around three to 45 acres.

Leadership participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking by “tee-ing off” for the first time in the 20 acre parcel of land where the light industrial facility will be located.

“We are excited about the amenities this facility will offer future tenants and employees,” said Ron Mills, President of IGX. “With easy access to major highways, close proximity to downtown, nearby shopping, dining, and recreation opportunities as well as housing and education right on campus, Brooks is an ideal location for new development.”

The formation of this economic development partnership was brokered by Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), the exclusive real estate agent for Brooks.
