A project aimed at improving connectivity and mobility on and around the rapidly growing Brooks campus is now complete and features a new name.

District 3 City Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, dignitaries and stakeholders from City of San Antonio Public Works, and Brooks gathered to celebrate the extension of Global Way, formerly Lyster Road. The voter-approved 2017 Bond project extends Global Way from Sous Vide Way to South New Braunfels. Road improvements include two concrete-base lanes in both directions with a center turn lane, underground utilities, meandering sidewalks, bike lanes, drainage improvements, and landscape features with more than 160 trees.

“Projects like this are key in enhancing and connecting our community to jobs,” said Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran. “To build a better future for our District 3 residents, we must continue to invest in our infrastructure to ensure all residents have the opportunity to get a good job in their very own community. Infrastructure does that.”

Brooks is home to four international companies, which are projected to employ nearly 2,000 at Brooks: French-based company, Cuisine Solutions, Mission Solar with roots in South Korea, Nissei America, Inc. of Japan, and OKIN Process of the Czech-Republic. The Brooks locations for Nissei America and OKIN Process are their U.S. Headquarters and Cuisine Solutions has announced their intention to relocate their U.S. Headquarters from Virginia to Brooks.

As a way to highlight the current international presence and recruit marquee employers that bring quality jobs to the Southeast side of San Antonio, Lyster Road has been renamed Global Way. Aviation Landing has been renamed to Sous Vide Way in honor of Cuisine Solutions and its $200 million capital investment at Brooks, which is the largest investment on the growing campus and the largest sous vide plant in the world.

“Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, our infrastructure partners continue to make progress on our goal to improve connectivity on the Brooks campus,” said Jim Campbell, Chairman of the Brooks Board of Directors. “With more than 50 businesses already located at Brooks, we’re working to be proactive in attracting more jobs.”

Nissei America and Brooks Academy of Science & Engineering, a Pre-K through 12 STEM-focused public charter school, are located directly along Global Way.

Two additional roads included in the 2017 Bond Program are expected to be completed in 2022. More than $89 million has been invested in infrastructure across the growing campus, which has paved the way for thousands of employees, students, and residents.
