Workouts to get excited about
It’s 2019 and San Antonians are no longer going to accept boring fitness options. With so many ways to get your sweat on — and many more becoming available all the time — we now have our choice of unique workout options. Great news for those who live or work near Brooks: many of these options are right here on the South Side. If you’re craving a way to stay fit that doesn’t involve the same old gym atmosphere, then check out this list of top five places to work out on the South Side.
1) Hybrid Fitness in the Heart of Brooks: MixFit SA
2655 Flight Nurse
As a local Southside-owned fitness company, MixFit is on a mission to improve the lives of their members through a fresh approach to fitness and wellness. At MixFit, it’s not just about losing weight or gaining muscle, but a total body and quality of life transformation with a goal to live better and longer.
2) A Stroll Through the Park with Perks: The Greenline
2532 Sidney Brooks
You might have already visited The Greenline for a walk with your dog or a Brooks signature event like Chanclas y Cervezas, but you may not have noticed the fitness equipment found alongside the beautiful waterway. Enjoy a jog along the 43-acre linear park then add some resistance burn at the workout machines located conveniently on your path.
3) Out in Nature for Inner Peace: Mitchell Lake Audubon
10750 Pleasanton Road
The mission of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is to connect people to nature through conservation and community education focused on birds and their habitats. While the audubon is primarily a place to observe majestic birds in their natural habitat, all the trail walking you’ll be doing is a workout in itself. Amp up your workout with a jog or an impromptu yoga session next to the beautiful Mitchell Lake.
4) Come as you are, leave as a Gladiator: Camp Gladiator
Various locations including nearby Hangar 9 at Brooks
Camp Gladiator workouts can be found in more than 4,000 locations across the country, including our very own South San Antonio. Camp Gladiator was founded by two American Gladiator champions and focuses on affordable and convenient group fitness. Every workout is different in their four-week fitness programs, where 60-minute workouts incorporate cardio and strength for a full-body burn.
5) Culture With a Side of Cardio: Mission Reach Hike and Bike Trail
Various locations
Bring the whole family out for a workout session that doubles as a history lesson. The Hike & Bike Trail along the San Antonio River connects all five missions in San Antonio: The Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. Each mission is about 2.5 miles from the next and is the perfect opportunity to use your bike collecting dust in the garage.
Committed to quality fitness
As a destination for people to live, work, learn, play, and stay on the South Side, events like free Zumba and 5K races are open to everyone looking to better themselves in a fun and unique way.
