San Antonio’s Southside has landed a few big names in recent months. The area is getting, among other things, the first Chipotle south of Highway 90, an upcoming extension of La Gloria, and a Dutch Bros. Now, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse is tapping in to the historically overlooked side of San Antonio.
According to a filing with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the casual dining chain is planning a location at the corner of S.E. Military and S. New Braunfels. The construction timeline filed with TDLR is from April 11, 2022 to September 15, 2022. The new build is expected to cost $900,000. A representative for BJ’s tells MySA that more information on the opening will be shared in a “couple” of weeks.
The chain of restaurants and brewhouses started in Southern California in 1978. The brewhouse experience includes a massive menu with everything from soba noodles to chicken to BJ’s signature Southern California twist on Chicago pizza and Pizookies for dessert. BJ’s also offers $10 lunch specials. The brewhouse component of the restaurants offer 11 BJ beers and ciders on tap as well as a more than 10 rotating seasonal brews.
Filings show the upcoming location will be nestled near The Greenline, the Brooks development’s waterfront park, and the University of Incarnate Word’s School of Osteopathic Medicine. It will also neighbor La Gloria, chef Johnny Hernandez’s popular restaurant for tacos and margaritas. Hernandez and his team are nearing completion on the Southside extension of his Pearl restaurant.
Chipotle is also opening a restaurant in the Brooks area at 3155 S.E. Military Drive. The location comes on the heels of the 2741 S.W. Military Drive Chipotle.
BJ’s three other San Antonio locations are all outside Loop 1604, at 17503 West Interstate 10, 5447 West Loop 1604 North, and 22410 Highway 281.
