“The availability of quality educational options at Brooks and throughout the surrounding community is crucial to our economic development strategy,” said Brooks President and CEO Leo Gomez. “Compass Rose has been extremely successful in its three years on campus and their expansion of the Legacy campus to serve grades K-12 will give us three quality high school options all right here on our 1,308-acres.”

The lease agreement has an initial 30-year term commencing on August 1, 2020 with two ten-year options. Compass Rose will remodel the building for its use, with the first floor anticipated to be ready by the first day of school on August 17, 2020. Compass Rose secured financing to complete improvements from Civic Builders’ Facilities Investment Fund and BlueHub Capital. The project will be managed by Project Control with Turner Construction Company serving as the general contractor.

A Texas Education Agency (TEA)-authorized public charter school network, Compass Rose opened its Legacy campus at Brooks in 2017, initially enrolling a founding class of 100 sixth and seventh grade students. Over the past three years, the school has grown to serve more than 350 students in grades six through nine. The Legacy campus is currently located at 8005 Outer Circle Road and occupies nearly 26,000-square feet of space. The new educational space will allow the Legacy campus to accelerate its growth to serve more than 1,500 students as a full K-12 institution by 2023.

“We are thrilled to have a partner like Brooks,” said Compass Rose Founder and CEO Paul Morrissey. “Leo Gomez and the Brooks team have been inspiring to work alongside. Brooks has the same big dreams for the Southside as we have for our students, and I am excited to spend the next fifty years working with Leo and his team to achieve those dreams.”

With two campuses in San Antonio, the Compass Rose network aims to prepare its students with entrepreneurship skills that will enable them to open their own businesses and become San Antonio’s leaders of tomorrow. Compass Rose Legacy earned a B rating and six out of seven distinctions for excellent performances from the TEA in 2019, making it one of the highest-performing middle schools in the Brooks region.
