Brooks and Industrial Group Southwest will soon break ground on a 350,000-square-foot industrial facility, the first phase of an additional 1.1 million square feet of industrial space coming to the area.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for June 14. Industrial Group Southwest will develop, build and lease the facility, which will be at the southwest corner of Goliad Road and City Base Landing. The facility — the first building of a joint venture between Brooks and Industrial Group Southwest — will be on 20 acres and feature parking for an estimated 400 to 900 employees of future tenants.
At full build out, preliminary development plans call for the joint venture to feature six available building sites ranging from 30,000 to 600,000 square feet and from about 3 to 45 acres. The facility is expected to be completed by spring 2019 and will be the fourth light industrial facility at Brooks.
In May, Japanese machinery maker Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. opened a 115,000-square-foot injection molding machine manufacturing plant on the Brooks campus. It was the company’s first U.S. facility.
“Brooks is quickly becoming one of San Antonio’s light manufacturing hubs as we fulfill our vision of attracting employers to the South Side,” Brooks President and CEO Leo Gomez said in a statement. “This facility will have the capacity to house up to three tenants as we continue to contribute toward the employment goals of our community.”
Gomez also said the facility supports Brooks’ mission to create high-paying jobs. The formation of the economic development partnership between Brooks and Industrial Group Southwest was brokered by JLL, the real estate agent for Brooks.
“We are excited about the amenities this facility will offer future tenants and employees,” Industrial Group Southwest President Ron Mills said in a statement. “With easy access to major highways, close proximity to downtown, nearby shopping, dining, and recreation opportunities, as well as housing and education right on campus, Brooks is an ideal location for new development.”
