The first annual Mission Reach “Treasured Chest 5K” brought to you by South Texas Breast Surgery and Dr. Maria Palafox was held on October 2nd at The Greenline park in South San Antonio. It was very successful with more than 100 participants, including many breast cancer survivors and virtual runners.

More than $4,800 was raised, which will be used to purchase ultrasounds, mammograms and breast biopsies, benefitting the uninsured and underinsured women of South San Antonio and South Texas.

The overall winner was Tony Mandujano with a time 24:36, followed by Irene Garza at 24:59, and Fernando Hernandez at 25:06. The participants’ ages ranged from 4 to 81 years old!

Major race sponsors were South Texas Breast Surgery and Carl & Dr. Lyssa Ochoa of the SAVE Clinic.

More than 10 individuals volunteered at the run while Split Second Productions with iRun Texas timed the event. All involved did a great job making sure everything went smoothly.

Thanks so much to everyone who made this run possible. Look for the second annual Mission Reach Treasured Chest run next October.
