District 3 Councilmember Viagran championed this voter-approved $3M project to help address the connectivity needs of its campus and community, beginning its second road extension project of the 2020 calendar year. The project will extend Inner Circle Road from its current endpoint at Louis Bauer Drive to Research Plaza, creating a half circle loop in the heart of the growing campus.
“The Southside continues to flourish and attract new residents and employees at a rapid rate,” said District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran. “This project will not only improve connectivity today but will also help us to address future mobility needs as we continue to add jobs and housing.”
The extension will feature a three-lane roadway with bike lanes, curb and sidewalks. The project will also feature utility improvements including the construction of water main, sewer main, recycled water main, underground electric conduit, underground duct bank and CPS gas lines. Low impact development (LID) features will also be added along the roadway to improve drainage, as well as a variety of landscaping features. The total budget for the project is $3.83M with $2.64M funded by the City of San Antonio and the remainder funded by the Stinson Corridor Project.
“Improving connectivity and traffic mobility continues to be one of our top priorities,” said Brooks President and CEO Leo Gomez. “Infrastructure improvements like roadway extensions help us to plan for what we know the future will look like on our 1,308-acre campus. Our region is expected to support more than 17,000 jobs by 2040 – we are doing what we can now to ensure those employees will have a direct route to and from work every day.”
Brooks continues to see a spike in development across its mixed-use campus, with global companies including Nissei Plastic Machinery America, Inc., Okin BPS, and Cuisine Solutions all opening within the last three years. Brooks broke ground on its first road extension project of the year in January, a voter-approved 2017 Bond initiative to extend Lyster Road from Aviation Landing to South New Braunfels. Completion of the Lyster Road extension is anticipated in early 2021.
Yantis Company is the general contractor for the Inner Circle Road project. Construction is anticipated to be completed in late 2021.
