Brooks and the entire South Side region continued the pattern of growth. With every announcement and grand opening, opportunities for residents and business owners on the South Side are expanded. Here is a recap of the great things that happened this year at Brooks.
Brooks celebrates international business at Global Way completion
District 3 City Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, dignitaries and stakeholders from City of San Antonio Public Works, and Brooks gathered to celebrate the extension of Global Way, formerly Lyster Road. The voter-approved 2017 Bond project extends Global Way from Sous Vide Way to South New Braunfels. Road improvements include two concrete-base lanes in both directions with a center turn lane, underground utilities, meandering sidewalks, bike lanes, drainage improvements, and landscape features with more than 160 trees.
Bakerly announces $35 million facility at Brooks
Bakerly LLC, maker of French-style breads and pastries, plans to expand its footprint with the construction of a $35 million production center in Southeast San Antonio on the Brooks campus. The first phase of the project, according to a state filing, includes a more than 137,000-square-foot structure that will house production operations and administrative offices. The facility is targeted for completion by April 2023.
Cuisine Solutions’ San Antonio Facility Receives LEED Certification
Cuisine Solutions, the global leader and largest premium food company in pioneering and perfecting the sous vide cooking technique, has received their LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for their processing facility located in San Antonio, Texas. The plant is the largest to participate in San Antonio’s Big Sun Community program, featuring a 300-space parking lot, shaded by solar panel carports, which are available for purchase by residents of San Antonio. This clean and renewable energy is then put back into the power grid and the savings are credited to the resident’s electric bill.
Paw Park at The Greenline opens
The Paw Park at The Greenline is now open for all canine friends in the Brooks region. Located at The Greenline, the dog park features separate areas for large and small dogs, water fountains, canopies, and nearly two dozen new trees. Through a partnership with the San Antonio River Authority, both areas have LID features that will protect the park’s pond from contamination.

They have assembled the best-in-class team comprised of Pape-Dawson Engineers as the civil engineers, Harvey Cleary Builders the General Contractor, and Power Brown as the architect.
La Gloria brings a little bit of heaven to Southside San Antonio in the growing Brooks community
La Gloria opens their newest restaurant at Brooks. The bright new 5,200-square foot space, constructed by San Antonio’s own Sabinal Group, offers a modern version of what locals have come to love from all of Chef Johnny’s other restaurants. Although it’s consistent with La Gloria’s popular signature style, this new restaurant slants away from the original “ice-house” ambience of other locations and leans into a contemporary concept customers will love.

The $84 million project is expected to yield 373 apartments as well as ground-level retail and live-work units.
